Ever Wanted to Play Chess Against a Computer Online?
Here is a chance to play chess online against a basic chess computer. This computer chess program was written to run in flash, but it still gives a decent game. This is a free game, uses a 3d chess board and needs no download. Could it be the best free online chess program out there?
If you want a tougher game then try some of the other computer chess engine download links on this site. Almost any UCI chess engine from Jim Ablett’s page will give an incredibly strong game, or you could download the Crafty chess computer which is also available with its own graphical user interface.
ATTENTION
If you are experiencing difficulty loading the game and playing chess online read this.
To play chess you must both install flash and then enable it your browser.
For example, in Chrome, after flash installation click on settings -> “advanced” and scroll down to “content settings” click this and then enable flash there.
You must complete BOTH downloading flash and enabling it in your browser for the chess game to work and be visible!
If after performing both actions the game still does not appear, then hard refresh your browser cache (control-F5 on Chrome).

Please add insufficient material draw into the program. It makes you keep moving when a draw has already happened. Thanks.

Will be in next version.

I love playing the game on this site. The graphics are really great, and I like how available moves easily show up in green, I’m still an amateur and in real life play another amateur friend at the same level offline on the weekends. She used to beat me each time, but since I’ve been practicing on this site with the computer (even at the beginner level), I’ve been blowing her king out of the water, after checking her 7 – 11 times before going into the final capture, lol. Last time she told me, “WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?!” Should I tell her? Naaaaahhh……
BTW, I still can’t beat the computer though… but in time I’m sure I eventually will. It’s so fun!

Looks great, but one of my pawns disappeared when the program’s pawn passed by it, in an illegal move! I tried redoing it, and it kept doing it! Hopefully the creators will fix this bug, but players beware!

Never heard of that one, Dave! Mind you, I’ve only just started playing again, having only dabbled when I was a kid. Thanks a lot for enlightening me!

I am quite irritated that you labeled something Beginner that when I was a beginner I got checkmated in three moves. I think you should label it, Average Level

beat casual in 8 moves. I think I got lucky

“Thinking” Dialog box should go away. Instead of “Thinking” dialog box, a busy cursor on one of the corners (not on board) should be displayed.
