Ever Wanted to Play Chess Against a Computer Online?
Here is a chance to play chess online against a basic chess computer. This computer chess program was written to run in flash, but it still gives a decent game. This is a free game, uses a 3d chess board and needs no download. Could it be the best free online chess program out there?
If you want a tougher game then try some of the other computer chess engine download links on this site. Almost any UCI chess engine from Jim Ablett’s page will give an incredibly strong game, or you could download the Crafty chess computer which is also available with its own graphical user interface.
ATTENTION
If you are experiencing difficulty loading the game and playing chess online read this.
To play chess you must both install flash and then enable it your browser.
For example, in Chrome, after flash installation click on settings -> “advanced” and scroll down to “content settings” click this and then enable flash there.
You must complete BOTH downloading flash and enabling it in your browser for the chess game to work and be visible!
If after performing both actions the game still does not appear, then hard refresh your browser cache (control-F5 on Chrome).

Well, at least this is great for my ego, to be able to beat the computer on expert level while I get destroyed on all other computer programs. However, this is a good program to practice playing people not that good, you can practice moves that are unexpected or not that common.

The idea was always to allow novices to have fun playing chess. More people playing the game, at whatever level, benefits everyone. 🙂

I have a question, how do you do a castle in this game? its not letting me.

I don’t know if it’s a rule in chess or it’s a glitch in the programing….computer had a pawn on d4 and I moved my pawn e2 to e4 and the computer took my pawn and moved to e3. Clicked undo move and did the same move and the computer did the same thing and took my pawn. It’s as if the computer thought I’d placed my pawn on e3.
Dave says
It is a rule called “en passant”.

Is this a glitch…..computer had pawn at d4, I had pawn at d3 blocking forward movement. I moved a pawn from e2 to e4 and the computer pawn moved from d4 to e3 and my pawn on d4 was captured.

What a great game. I learn so much from it and thank you! The only recommendation is how quickly the game goes into “Stalemate” and always when the game is about to lose or, in it’s sole discretion, it thinks you could’ve made some other move or fewer moves. This is counter productive when trying to learn. Otherwise, what a great game!
