Chess Online Against Computer

Ever Wanted to Play Chess Against a Computer Online?

Here is a chance to play chess online against a basic chess computer.  This computer chess program was written to run in flash, but it still gives a decent game. This is a free game, uses a 3d chess board and needs no download. Could it be the best free online chess program out there?

If you want a tougher game then try some of the other computer chess engine download links on this site. Almost any UCI chess engine from Jim Ablett’s page will give an incredibly strong game, or you could download the Crafty chess computer which is also available with its own graphical user interface.

ATTENTION

If you are experiencing difficulty loading the game and playing chess online read this.

To play chess you must both install flash and then enable it your browser.

For example, in Chrome, after flash installation click on settings -> “advanced” and scroll down to “content settings” click this and then enable flash there.

You must complete BOTH downloading flash and enabling it in your browser for the chess game to work and be visible!

If after performing both actions the game still does not appear, then hard refresh your browser cache (control-F5 on Chrome).

FlashCHESS3 – Play Chess Online Against Computer

It is available from http://www.flashchess3.com/download.html

How do you castle your king?

Move the king two squares to either side (assuming it is a valid castling move). The rook will move itself. Moving the king first is a recommended tournament method too.

This site is great. I liked the previous design more however.

I thought black and white was kind of nice, especially as it is a chess site. *SNIFF*

The old theme had to go as it loaded poorly on mobile phones and ipad etc. The site had been using that brown theme for over four years, surely it was time for a change? 🙂

The computer uses En Passant illegally.

All I can say is that I have never seen it do that. Can you explain what you mean by illegally?

    Good job.

    These features would be nice.

    1. The squares of the computer’s last move (starting, finishing) should be highlighted until the user makes a move. This would be helpful so that the user doen’t have to pay close attention to the screen to see what move the computer has just made.

    2. Go back a move should be enabled even after checkmate/stalemate. This would allow the user to experiment with different end strategies.

I am currently looking into a totally new chess playing interface with a new chess engine that is much stronger and many more features, such as take-back and more. I cannot promise when it is coming, only that it will. 🙂

Still love your game but it regularly goes to Stalemate or Draw way too prematurely and often when I am going to place the computer into Checkmate.

Select black on the start up screen. At the bottom there are two knights – click on them and you can play with the white or black chess pieces.
