Chess Online Against Computer

Ever Wanted to Play Chess Against a Computer Online?

Here is a chance to play a game against a basic chess computer.  This computer chess program was written to run in flash, but it still gives a decent game. It is a free game, uses a 3d chess board and needs no download. Could it be the best free online chess program out there?

If you want a tougher game then try some of the other computer chess engine download links on this site. Almost any UCI chess engine from Jim Abletts page will give an incredibly strong game, or you could download the Crafty chess computer which is also available with its own graphical user interface

FlashCHESS3 – Play Chess Online Against Computer

FlashChess can also be downloaded to play on the desktop of your computer.

  5. joe says:

    i like this gameeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  6. Dave says:

Move the king first to where you want it to go. It will only let you castle if you haven’t already moved the king and you are not in check, or moving into check.

  7. Mike says:

The opposing pawns are making illegal capture moves. I will move my piece beside the opposing pawn. Then it will move diagonally behind my piece and capture it. My pawns cannot perform the same capture against the opposition….

  8. Dave says:

Sorry, but the capture you refer to is not illegal. It is called “en passant” (French for “in passing”). It can only be carried out immediately after the player moves a pawn two squares from its initial position.

I will add a section to the site about rules of chess and legal moves for pieces etc. at some point in the future.

In the meantime here is a wiki link with more details – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/En_passant

  9. Jean McLevedge says:

Yes, great site for practice and learning patterns. Last week I undid a move and redoing it got a different response. Good design and wonderful resource.

  14. ricky says:

this helps me learn how to play chess bcoz i suck at chess

  15. Julie Gill says:

The rules surrounding castling are as follows. (1) Neither the rook with which you want to castle or the king can have moved from their original starting positions. (2) The king cannot move through a square that will be putting itself into check during the move. (3) In this particular chess programme you click on the king 1st, move it 2 squares either to the right or left, and the rook will automatically swap positions with it. (As you will no doubt have noticed the squares light up in this programme to let you know where you are able to move any piece you click on.) To be perfectly honest with you, I don’t know how other chess programmes on the net let you attain this move, but I’m sure it can’t be all that different to the above. I hope I have been of some help, Julie Gill.

  16. bm wild says:

    nice game

  17. Dave says:

You can if the computer moves a pawn two squares when you have a pawn in the correct place to take it. The computer seldom makes this move though and you can only perform en passant on the move the opportunity occurs,

  18. Julie Gill says:

To Peter and David, I forgot to mention one more thing about castling, and that is that you cannot make the move if your king is already in check. Sorry about that, Julie.

  19. Khushi Nigam says:

you rock this is really awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MY FIRST TIME

  25. Adam says:

I can verify that all the moves the computer does is valid very nice system you made here. Almost seems like the computer even learns from you which is absurd to think i know. You can do the En passant move to the computer its just not dumb enough to set that move up against its self often, however it does make a blunder or two at times.

  26. Awli says:
